Hello!
Two weeks ago we exhibited at Surtex and the National Stationery Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. We have not exhibited at this particular show in a few years – and what a good idea it was to go back! Going to shows like these is one way that I find companies who want to collaborate and license my designs. The booth looked like a jewel colored tent. I hand painted bright marigold and fuchsia colored silk and hung hand painted Chinese lanterns from the ceiling.
We were jam packed every day meeting wonderful manufacturers who produce all kinds of innovative products. Because of this show Dena Designs has landed a major retail promotion so lots of fun new product will soon be out for you to enjoy! More information on that to come.
People ask me all the time why I enjoy embellishing things. I have so many reasons! The hands on process of embellishing – having fun while spending only a little money – is one of the biggest rewards, and then to top it off you end up with something you absolutely love!
We have lots of things in our homes that could use a little “sprucing up”. Maybe you have an old footstool or simple white pillow cases that need that extra bit of something to make them special. We all have shoes and bags sitting at the backs of our closets. They haven’t been worn in ages but there’s still something about them we like. A quick embellishment may just do the trick. I believe in recycling these objects and not throwing them away. With a little embellishing, my old things have a new sense of style! People are surprised by how easy, enjoyable, and inexpensive it is to do. Use scraps of ribbon, old bits of jewelry, buttons etc. (the list is endless) The bottom line is use embellishments that you love and your project will reflect your own unique sense of style.
This week I embellished two pairs of my old shoes that still had some life in them. On one pair, I attached vintage earrings. On the other I tied a pink velvet bow and added a green suede flower with a bit of hot glue.
