The Art of
Licensing: A Lot to Be happi About
Last year was a banner one for Dena Designs. Overall retail sales to date for the brand topped $380 million worldwide, and it now counts 30 licensees on its roster. The art brand also signed a number of deals across the globe. In Australia, Dena's partner, Grant Studios is moving stationery and paper products into Kmart and Spotlight stores. Recent success on QVC teams Dena and Imagine That Designs' scrapbook products with an expected program on QVC U.K. as well as in the U.S. for 2009. |

Brandweek: Sunrise Greetings Strikes ‘happi' Licensing Deal Artist and illustrator Dena Fishbein ("Dena Designs") is debuting a line extension called "happi by Dena," a licensing deal that will include an arrangement with Sunrise Greetings to have her artwork at 15,000 post offices for Mother's Day. Happi, which features Fishbein's handpainted and computerized art in colorful characters and patterns, will be featured on bubble mailers, boxes and other mailing materials. The deal was designed to coincide with the May holiday, but will be ongoing. Fishbein, who simply goes by "Dena" hosted a show called Embellish This! on the DIY Network. |

She hosts a popular TV show on the DIY Network called Embellish This!, has written three books and names as fans stars like Leeza Gibbons and Maria Bello. Scrapbook Retailer: An Interview With Dena, Featured Artist What are some of your sources of inspiration? The wonderful thing about inspiration is that it can come from anywhere andappears when you least expect it. My everyday sources of inspiration are often right at home. The plants in my garden are forever presenting me with shapes and color combinations I can use in my work. My dogs' funny expressions are a constant source of delight and ideas.
