Meet Sophie

Posted by: Dena in Announcements on

My friend Pam got a puppy!

This is really big news because she has been talking about getting a dog since I met her 15 years ago.

This is Sophie- she’s nine weeks old and she’s a wirehaired Dachshund.  I had been wanting a dog like this for my birthday but my husband Danny says three dogs is enough so I didn’t get it. I was going to name mine Steve but I’m happy Pam has Sophie and here are pictures from our first meeting.

I have the tiniest guest room. It was originally built as a computer room for my kids. Nice idea, but they never really used it. They’d rather be in the kitchen or in the studio doing their homework where all the action is.

When Lisa (my 16 year old) got a new bed for her room, we decided to try and squeeze her old bed into the computer room. Miraculously it fit – without an inch to spare lengthwise (I’m not kidding.) Suddenly we have a guest room the size of a berth on a cruise liner. So I have to make it cozy cozy cozy – like a little nest.

Here is the Before photo:

The bedding from Lisa’s room was looking tired, so we decided to start our makeover by just sewing up a new dust ruffle, pillowcases, and a bed drape using sample fabric from my Westminster Fibers Rambling Rose collection. This is a great weekend project (anybody have some free time coming up?) Use up fabric that you have lying around or here’s a great excuse to buy some new fresh fabric to customize a bedroom in your home.  I think it’s a lot more fun and creative to just freshen up what you have with a few new basics rather than buying all new bedding.

And After!

I’m thinking about painting the walls next. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Happy sewing!

My favorite season has arrived. Since I’m in California and we had a pretty mild winter, I shouldn’t be quite so excited – but I AM. I love it when everything starts to bloom. So Katina went out and took some photos of new flowers in my garden. If you haven’t had your blossoms start popping yet – here are some of mine for you to enjoy!

Johanna's Apple Cake

Posted by: Dena in Untagged  on

It’s not often that I find one of those really special recipes. I had dinner at my friend Johanna’s and she made an apple cake that was truly delicious. It’s the perfect comfort food – serve it warm with ice cream preferable on a lovely vintage floral plate. There are big chunks of apple in this cake, which I love. If you want to imagine that you’re eating dessert at a country kitchen apple farm, give this a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Do you have a really good recipe? I would love to hear about it!

This week we prepared for a photo shoot featuring our new fabric collection for Free Spirit Fabrics called Monaco. We thought it might be fun for you to see some of the behind the scenes photos.
